The Arenac County Board of Commissioners met the county’s new animal control officer, Bob Forsyth, during their committee of the whole meeting the morning of July 8. Now working full time for Arenac County, Forsyth also works part time as animal control officer in Ogemaw County, where began working in animal control last spring.
“Just working on summer projects, getting things wrapped up,” said Standish-Sterling Community School District Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski at the board of education’s July 14 regular meeting.
The Standish City Council held public hearings concerning the city’s grass ordinance and a special use permit application for the property at 100 E. Cedar St. at their regular meeting July 14.

State Rep. Mike Hoadley (R-Au Gres) led the Michigan House Wednesday, June 11, in passing a measure allowing for the sale of the property currently owned by the state and maintained by the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) in Standish. The former prison has been closed since 2009, but MDOC still oversees and maintains the facility and grounds.
“We’re still going to be taking care of the animals,” said Arenac County Coordinator Austin Hazeltine. “Animal control is not being shut down.”
