Arenac County honors Memorial Day

The following Memorial Day activities are set this Sunday, May 28: Au Gres Annual Memorial Day Parade, Downtown Au Gres, 1 p.m. The procession will begin at US-23 and Water Street in Au Gres and end at the Au Gres-Sims School. The top three floats will receive cash prizes: first place, $50; second place, $25; and third place, $15.

Nature walk

The annual Saginaw Bay Nature Festival, hosted by the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish, will host its third nature walk Wednesday, May 24. The event is free and open to the public. Participants are invited to the McLean Nature Preserve, located at 2199 N. Flajole Road in Rhodes. The free tour begins at 4 p.m. and will have attendees exploring the preserve's picturesque trails and the region's vibrant flora and fauna. The preserve is north of Erickson Road in Garfield Township. The 'Wildflower Walk' will be led by Jim McLean and will offer an opportunity to witness the beauty of wildflowers in full bloom, observe a variety of bird species, spot turtles, and savor the views of the north branch of the Kawkawlin River.

Arenac County student named to President’s List MANCHESTER, NH — It is with great pleasure that Southern New Hampshire University announces that James Quigley of Au Gres has been named to the Winter 2023 President's List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum gradepoint average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List.

Art center to host Victorian tea parties

STANDISH — Two Victorian Tea Parties will be held Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at noon at the Northeast Art Center, located at the corner of Grove Road and US-23 in Standish. Sponsored and hosted by the Northeast Michigan Arts Council, NEMAC, this fundraising event will include refreshments such as tea, small sandwiches, scones, cakes, and assorted pastries, served in a garden setting.
