Community Connect

The Iosco-Arenac District Library is hosting Community Connect Liaison Catherine Kelley, from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Mary Johnston Memorial Library in Standish.

Kelley will be on hand to assist and answer questions related to Michigan unemployment benefits for employees and employers, direct people to resources within the agency that can assist and, ultimately, provide feedback the agency can use to proactively address barriers.

No appointments or registration required. This service is provided free and is open to the public.

February office hours

State Rep. Mike Hoadley, of Au Gres, has announced February office hours events for people in the 99th House District in Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, Bay, Clare and Gladwin counties.

Office hours are as follows:

• Monday, Feb. 3 from 9-10 a.m. at Pinconning City Hall, 208 S. Manitou Street in Pinconning.

• Monday, Feb. 3 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Gladwin City Hall, 1000 W. Cedar Ave. in Gladwin.

• Friday, Feb. 7 from 10-11 a.m. at The Daily Cup, 114 N. Williams Street in Rose City.

• Friday, Feb. 7 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at East Tawas Library, 760 Newman Street in East Tawas.

• Friday, Feb. 7 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Au Gres City Hall, 124 W. Huron in Au Gres.

Want to make a snowman?

Mary Johnston Memorial Library in Standish will host a snowman craft at the library on Saturday, Jan. 25.

All supplies are provided and there are two times to sign up for the craft.

February’s coffee and donuts

Arenac County Veterans Affairs will host its next coffee and donuts on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Arenac County Veterans Club, 3221 M-76 in Standish. The event is held the first Tuesday of the month from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The free program is open to all veterans and spouses. Arenac County Veterans Affairs is there as well to help veterans receive services and support.

Trivia for scholarships

The 14th Annual Trivia Night will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 at Sunrise Community Resource Center, 583 E. Cedar St. in Standish. Registration is now open. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with trivia starting at at 6:30 p.m. The event, hosted by Arenac Community Funds, will include prizes, snacks and 20 rounds of trivia. Teams will consist of up to eight people and cost is $200 per team.

The fundraiser raises scholarship funds for Arenac County high school graduates attending a Michigan college or trade school. Post-high school applicants are also accepted.
