Greens and Bake Sale

Ye Olde Courthouse’s annual Greens and Bake Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The sale will offer a variety of items, including popcorn balls, candy, cookies, pies, breads, and cupcakes. Fresh green arrangements will also be available for purchase.

Coffee event speaker

Arenac County Veterans Affairs will host its next coffee and donuts event on Tuesday, Dec. VA representatives will give a presentation on Advanced Directives at 10:30 a.m. Coffee and donuts is held the first Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Arenac County Veterans Club, 3221 M-76 in Standish.

The free program is open to all veterans and spouses. The monthly events provide veterans with important information as well as an opportunity to share experiences and fellowship with other veterans. Arenac County Veterans Affairs, ACVA, can assist veterans and their families in accessing services and support.

School Christmas program

Sterling Elementary will host its annual Christmas Program on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Standish-Sterling Central High School Auditorium. Students from Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Morel, and Ms. Jacobs and Mrs. Williams’ classrooms, will give their performance at 5:30 p.m., followed by a performance at 6:30 p.m. from students in Mrs. Huovinen and Mrs. Proctor’s classes, and Mrs. Collier and Mrs. Backus’ classrooms.

Letters to Santa

Send your child’s Christmas list and photo to us and we will publish it in the Arenac County Independent, Ogemaw County Herald or Oscoda County Herald.

Email letters and photos to: mdriscoll@cherryroad.com In the subject line, type Santa Letter, ARE or OGE or OSC (your preferred paper), and the child’s name.

To mail letters, send to: Ogemaw County Herald PO Box 247, West Branch, MI, 48661. Be advised that postal service may be slow, especially around the holidays, so allow plenty of time.

Letters and photos may be dropped off at the Ogemaw County Herald, 215 W. Houghton Avenue in West Branch. Please call 989-345-0044, extension 2464 or option 3, to make sure the office is open when you plan to visit.

Letters must be received by Dec. 5.

Courthouse volunteers

Ye Olde Courthouse Committee members are looking for volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 10-11 to help create this year’s holiday greens. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including decorating and assisting with lunch service and cleanup. Volunteers will create around 120 holiday mug arrangements for the residents of Horizon Senior Living, MyMichigan Health Skilled Nursing, Eden Fields Assisted Living, and the MediLodge of Sterling, with plans to deliver the arrangements Dec. 11.

Annual holiday auction

Arenac Community Funds will host its 21st Annual Holiday Auction, helping Arenac County communities, on Thursday, Dec. 5, at The Four One’s Landing in Au Gres, 110 E. Huron Road. Event registration begins at 6 p.m., and the auction begins at 7 p.m.
