Panthers Baseball maintains perfect start

It’s safe to say the Standish-Sterling Baseball team has been living up to expectations just a few short weeks into the season. After a state semifinal appearance in 2023, the Panthers found themselves returning the brunt of their talent from last season, and have opened the year with a 9-0 record, including a weekend tournament victory at Beaverton High School April 20.The Panthers opened their Saturday slate with Beaverton High School, winning 9-6 in come-from-behind fashion to capture a spot in the title game.“Learning how to win and coming from behind in the last inning to beat Beaverton over the weekend showed that we are pretty tough as well,” Standish-Sterling Head Coach Ryan Raymond said.Heading into the bottom of the fourth, Standish-Sterling found themselves with a comfortable 5-0 lead, but an offensive explosion, powered by two hits and an error, allowed the Beavers to take a 6-5 lead.Quinten Leamon hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at six in the fifth. In the sixth, the Panthers broke the tie on a walk by Brock Barlett, giving themselves the 7-6 edge they’d never give back.“I can never expect any of my players to perform under pressure if they haven’t been put under pressure,” Raymond said.
