Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Marty Schultz is only three weeks away from an epic journey, as the 70-year-old Pinconning resident plans to hike the infamous Appalachian Trail beginning next month. His journey will begin April 15, a nod to his late mother’s birthdate, in Georgia.

Two organizations to receive $100,000 for training funds

mhecht@cherryroad.com 989-387-9295 STANDISH — Nearly $100,000 in training funding was given to two organizations in Arenac County recently to support regional businesses. Michigan Works! Region 7B, which serves the counties of Arenac, Clare, Gladwin, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon, partnered with 11 companies throughout its six-county service area to obtain over $1 million in Going PRO Talent Funds for training, developing, and retaining both newly hired and existing employees.

AGS teacher earns STEM award

989-387-9295 AU GRES — A teacher at Au Gres-Sims School district has been honored as a STEM Star educator. Saginaw Valley State University and the MiSTEM Network–East Central Michigan Region recognized 20 educators for their contributions to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The individuals, representing schools in seven Michigan counties, were honored as “STEM Stars” at a STEM teachers dinner hosted by SVSU.
