Health department offers free care for expectant parents

Free assistance is available to expectant parents and newborns through The Central Michigan District Health Department’s Maternal Infant Health Program, MIHP.The program provides free support to pregnant women and infants up to one year of age, according to the department, adding that MIHP services are intended to improve the health outcomes of pregnant women and infants by providing health education, emotional support, nutrition education, childbirth/parenting education, and transportation assistance when needed.“Babies born to those in MIHP are healthier, and families who use this program learn how their baby is growing and developing,” said Janice Parrett, CMDHD Personal Health Supervisor and MIHP Coordinator.“We also offer breastfeeding support through agency peer counselors.”The department’s team includes registered nurses, licensed social workers, and registered dietitians, and home visitors.
