Mobile Medical Response, MMR, Emergency Medical Technicians, EMT, paid a visit to the Arenac County Arenac County Veterans Club, 3221 M-76 in Standish on Thursday, May 2 for training on a new Automated External Defibrillator, AED, recently purchased by the Arenac County Veterans’ Affairs Committee.An AED is a portable device that examines the cardiac rhythm and can give an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm if required.Since they routinely rent out the clubhouse to girl scouts and parties, the veterans’ affairs committee purchased a machine for the clubhouse, using millage revenue, that works for both adults and children.MMR EMTs Jon Fredrickson and Kohli Riggs trained the club members how to use the machine and perform CPR.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking Rifle River and Saginaw Bay anglers to keep an eye out for brown trout with a tag or clip and to report information about these fish as part of a new study.Andy Ernst, a local angler critical to the brown trout study on the Rifle River, mans a fishing boat with a DNR staffer.This spring, the DNR initiated a pilot study to gauge brown trout movement in the Rifle River and their exchange between the river and Saginaw Bay.
Members of the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish heard a presentation by Sean Robinson, Senior Project Manager with AKT Peerless Environmental Services in Saginaw, on April 19, regarding the issue of PFAS, or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances.
