Northern Michigan author to present award-winning book in Standish

Author Robert Downes will have something to celebrate as he offers a slide talk at the Northeast Michigan Arts Center in Standish at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 because he has just earned a book-of-the-year award from the Historical Society of Michigan for his nonfiction history, “Raw Deal: The Indians of the Midwest and the Theft of Native Lands.”

Make our roads safer

In response to several serious traffic crashes on M-33 north of Rose City, an increase in reports of reckless driving incidents on M-33 and an increase in general complaints from the public concerning speeding on M-33, law enforcement officials are taking action to encourage better driving behavior on the local stretch of this state highway.
