Large pole barns: right for the City of Au Gres?

East Michigan Avenue property owners filled Au Gres City Hall Oct. 7 to oppose construction of pole barns and related zoning variances on a property south of Inland Marine. Local builder Nick Moore presented a proposal for the city council and others present, requesting commercial zoning and variances in order to develop seven acres of vacant land for 22 lots, each with a pole barn either 30 by 40 or 40 by 60 feet in dimension.

Federal government shuts down

The United States Federal Government shut down last week on Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. after failing to pass a spending bill or continuing resolution. Then on Thursday night, the State of Michigan Legislature, which had passed its own temporary plan Oct. 1 in order to avoid shutting down, passed a budget through the House shortly before midnight, and through the Senate after midnight.
