Area student advances to VFW state competition
Adrienne Rau, an eighth grader from St. Michael’s Middle School in Pinconning, has been named the winner of the Patriot’s Pen Essay Writing Contest, sponsored by the Arenac VFW Post #3724 and Auxiliary.
Music and art in Standish
The Northeast Art Center in Standish will be hosting two events this month that help inspire love for music and the arts.
Out and About
A pizza, movie and pajama party for kids will be held Friday, Feb. 14 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. at Standish-Sterling Central Elementary. Open to those in grades pre-K through sixth grade.

K of C Free Throw champs
Area youth put their skills to the test during the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest, hosted by the Au Gres Knights of Columbus Council #7717. The local competition took place Jan. 18 at Au Gres-Sims High School, where boys and girls ages 9-14 competed in the first round.

Second Sunday Concert Series wraps up season
This Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m., The Blue Water Ramblers will be center stage for the Second Sunday Concert Series, held at the Northeast Art Center in Standish, 3233 Grove Street Road.
Out and About
The VFW Post 3724 and Auxiliary will host its next monthly all-you-can-eat Buffet Breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Arenac County Veterans Club, 3221 M-76 in Standish. The monthly events are open to the public and are held the second Sunday of every month.
