This weekend was an encouraging sign for the Standish-Sterling softball program.After opening their season with a 1-7 record, the Panthers snagged two out of three games at their home tournament to give themselves some needed momentum.The Panthers opened play against Cheboygan, edging the Chiefs 3-2 in a pitcher duel.Julia Mattson started in the circle for Standish-Sterling, going four innings, allowing six hits and two runs.

Coming off back-to-back semifinal’s appearances in 2022 and 2023, the Standish-Sterling baseball program has solidified itself as one of the most dominant programs throughout Division 3.This year the Panthers will be making the jump to Division 2, but their expectations to hoist the state title trophy have not changed.“The expectations for the team every year is to win a state championship,” Standish-Sterling Head Coach Ryan Raymond said.
