Standish loses its Santa

The Standish community is mourning the loss of long-time resident, Jim Whitson, who passed away last week. Whitson served as Standish’s resident Santa Claus for many years. He was an active community member and local business owner. He passed away Feb. 24.

State awards $3.6 million for invasive species prevention and control

The state of Michigan announced Monday, March 3, that 32 projects, including projects in Arenac County, will share $3.6 million in funding through the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program for efforts that address the prevention, detection, eradication and control of aquatic (water-based) and terrestrial (land-based) invasive species.

The Au Gres PTO is hosting a Snow Ball on Friday, March 7 from 6-8 p.m. All kindergarten through fifth grade families are invited to attend. The ball will be held in the AGS Elementary Gym and it is free to attend.

Committee announces results of scholarship fundraiser

The Arenac County Funds Committee has announced the results of its 14th Annual Trivia Challenge. Event Chairman Ronda Switek reported the fundraiser netted $9,921, which is earmarked for the ACF Scholarship Fund held at the Bay Area Community Foundation.
