Brightening the Holidays

STANDISH—The festive season is upon us, and this year, the Standish Area Chamber of Commerce is fostering community spirit by putting local homes on the map – literally – with their holiday displays.Traditionally known as the Christmas Lights Contest, the chamber is taking a fresh approach this year, extending an invitation to all residents in Arenac County who love to decorate their homes with lights and decorations.

Standish business owners Mitch and Susan Oliver say they’re looking forward to continuing to bring a range of services to the canine community in Standish.The couple opened the doors to their new business, The Standish Boarding Kennel, in late May of this year.

81st District Court

Recent activity in the 81st Judicial District Court in Arenac County has resulted in the following:Salvador Guiterrez II, of Saginaw, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and attempted resisting and obstructing: consecutive sentences of 75 days in jail, three days credited, 72 days to be served, and 40 days in jail, three days credited, 37 days to be served, $1,585 FC and 24 months’ probation.

Local history enthusiasts and preservationists in Arenac County work tirelessly to ensure the stories of the past are not forgotten.The Arenac County Historical Museum, in Au Gres, and Ye Olde Courthouse, in Omer, have become focal points for community involvement, relying on volunteers and fundraising initiatives to maintain and showcase the region’s history.The Arenac County Historical Museum and Ye Olde Courthouse are calling for volunteers to join their efforts in various tasks aimed at preserving and sharing local history.
