Veterans’ committee hosts kickoff celebration

Honoring veterans and educating them about their rights to benefits and services, as well as the assistance the ACVAC provides to veterans and their families were the main objectives of the event.The committee’s mission statement is “To assist veterans and their families in obtaining any and all county, state and federal benefits to which they are entitled, with utmost respect.”A posting of the colors, the anthem, and the introduction of dignitaries Senator Michelle Hoitenga and State Representative Mike Hoadley were all part of the celebration.

Activity in the 81st Judicial District Court of Arenac County has resulted in the following:Bryce Kanyon Arold, of Alger, for contempt – failure to appear and failure to pay: sentenced to two days in jail, two days credited, and $505 FC.Tyler Kelvin Green, of Sterling, for contempt – probation violation/failure to comply and contempt – failure to appear: sentences to be served consecutively – first sentence of 43 days in jail, two days credited, 41 days to be served, and a second sentence of two days in jail, two days credited, and $200 FC plus previous balance.Candis May Van Poppelen, of Omer, for embezzlement under $200: sentenced to 30 days in jail, two days credited, 28 days to be served, $1,674 FC and 12 months’ probation.Norman Lee Barclay, of Pontiac, for disorderly person – drunk: sentenced to 90 days in jail, 57 days credited, 33 days to be served, and $1,185 FC.Sequoia Faith Sample, of Standish, for lying to a peace officer 1-4 yrs.
