The Tawas Blackhawk Peewee hockey team pulled off a MAHA District 7 championship win this past weekend at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, MI. The Blackhawk peewee team includes students from four local schools: Au Gres, Tawas, Hale, and Ogemaw.The District 7 tournament included teams from Alpena, Cheboygan, Gaylord, Kalkaska, Sault Ste Marie, Petosky, Traverse City, and Tawas. Friday, the Blackhawks came out on top with a score of 3-0 to shut out Traverse City North Stars Green. Saturday morning, the Blackhawks clenched the number one seed in the quarterfinals when they came out on top with a score of 6-4 after a slow start against Traverse City North Stars Red. The Blackhawks then won their next game to put them into the Championship game against Alpena, where they fought hard and took the win with a score of 4-2. The Blackhawks will travel to Iron Mountain, March 1-3, to compete in the State Championship tournament.
