The 2025 Venetian Night Boat Parade will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, with a special “Meet the Captains” cook-out at Au Gres Riverside Park.
State Rep. Mike Hoadley (R-Au Gres) has announced upcoming office hours for citizens in the 99th House District in Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, Bay, Clare and Gladwin counties to meet with their state representative during the month of August.
State Rep. Ken Borton (R-Gaylord) welcomed Lake City Mayor Craig Ardis to join him in providing testimony to the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Labor and Economic Opportunity July 23.

Last Saturday was National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, a day to honor those who served during what is called the Forgotten War. Over the years I’ve tried to learn more about this war and have written about it from time to time. A search of the archives revealed that I wrote an article and a column specifically about the war in Korea and mentioned it six other times in columns.

For the first time in history more than 100 boats have finished the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. The event, which took place overnight July 26-27, included 230 competitors from Michigan, 18 other U.S. states, Canada, Great Britain and Beliz, and drew thousands of spectators.
