With new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) being detected in Michigan’s wild and domestic birds throughout this winter season, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) strongly encourages owners to continue taking steps to protect their animals from this virus, especially as wild birds begin their spring migration.

AG secures $59.7M settlement against Pfizer subsidiary

LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced early this month that Michigan has joined the U.S. Department of Justice, 37 other states, and Puerto Rico in settling kickback allegations against Biohaven Pharmaceutical Holding Company Ltd., a subsidiary owned by pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

By the fire on a sunny winter day

I have a correction to make. In my New Year’s column, “Easing into hibernation,” I shared an anecdote from “The Dirty Life: On Farming, Food, and Love” by Kristin Kimball. I borrowed the book from the library and read it years ago. I didn’t have the book in my house, so when I described a scene from the book, “They scrounged around in the snow and found enough tender, young dandelion greens to make a salad,” I was relying on memory.
