SSC students make choir history

Cayson Smith and Rachel Raymer have been selected by MSVMA out of 300 singers to participate in an 83 member All-State Honors Choir in East Lansing at MSU on Saturday, May 11.Cayson and Rachel are the first singers in the history of the SSC Choir Program who have advanced on to this level.Natalie Smith, Director of Choirs for Standish-Sterling Central Jr/Sr High School said the two originally auditioned for Regional Honors Choir last fall, where they auditioned for State Honors Choir.  They performed in Grand Rapids at the Devos Hall in January for their State performance. Cayson is a Sophomore and is also involved in Cross Country, Track, FFA, NHS, PALS, and Drama.  Rachel is a Freshman and is also involved in Basketball, NJHS, and Band. They both also sing with their church choir.

Members of the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish heard a presentation by Sean Robinson, Senior Project Manager with AKT Peerless Environmental Services in Saginaw, on April 19, regarding the issue of PFAS, or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances.

Panthers Boys Track and Field win Hurd Invitational

The Standish-Sterling boys track and field team placed first at the Hurd Invitational hosted by Vassar High School April 26, following 16 top-five finishes.Junior sprinter and long jumper Aidan Coggins shined brightly for the Panthers, placing first place in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.72.Coggins also added to his all-around performance by placing first in the long jump with a distance of 19-11.He had a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash, placing behind teammate, Andrew Stewart to sweep the top two spots in the sprint.
