County commemorates Memorial Day

ARENAC COUNTY—Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 was honored in Standish with various veteran-conducted ceremonies slated at area cemeteries both Sunday and Monday.On Sunday, May 28 local veterans visited cemeteries from 8:45 - 11 a.m.

County commissioners discuss spillway project

During the Arenac County Board of Commissioners’ Meeting of the Whole on May 14, Emergency Manager Mike Bowers submitted the FY 2023-24 Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Planning Program Grant and the FY 2023 Operation Stonegarden (OPSG) Grant for approval.The board also reviewed and discussed the EGLE and USDA grant agreements, which were presented for signatures to increase county funding.Discussions took place regarding the Forest Lake Spillway project.

Foster families can provide safe space for children in need

Do you have space in your home — and life — for a child caught in a difficult situation?The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has put out a call during Foster Care Month for more foster homes to temporarily take in children while the state works toward hopefully reuniting them safely with their parents.“We are thankful for the thousands of families across Michigan who have already opened up their hearts and homes to care for youth in foster care,” said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director, stated in a news release.
