On Monday, Jan. 6, the Arenac County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting to discuss ongoing and future fairground improvement projects.
During the Arenac County Board of Commissioners Meeting of the Whole and regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, Treasurer Julie Hazeltine reported some operational changes, including the elimination of annual document binding, thanks to modern electronic archiving systems. These measures are projected to save money and support essential software upgrades, she said.
The Arenac Choraleers will hold weekly rehearsals on Mondays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 27 in the choir room at Standish-Sterling Central High School, in preparation for their spring concert slated for May 3, in Standish.
During the Fall session of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan’s two percent distribution ceremony, the tribe distributed $1,051,302.29 to the community, including 14 municipalities in Arenac County, the Standish Area Fire Authority; Sterling Area Fire Department; Twining, Mason, Turner Fire Department; Au Gres-Sims School District, and the Standish-Sterling School District.
A growing number of consumers are turning to products derived from cannabis plants to treat an array of conditions. Formulations include gummies and other edibles, tinctures, vapes, and even beverages.
The Arenac Conservation District and Arenac Christmas for Kids collaborated to host the Festival of Trees. A total of 21 trees were sponsored by local businesses in Arenac County. Each participating business decorated a Christmas tree, which was then donated to a family in need this holiday season. The trees were initially displayed at a business before being judged by a panel of secret volunteer judges. The winner of the 2024 decoration contest was the Bauman Family. Additionally, an online People’s Choice Award was presented to Farm Bureau Insurance Karen Tremble. A generous donation of $1,533 was made to Arenac Christmas for Kids to assist with next year’s Christmas list.
The Au Gres-Sims School District held a Detroit Lions Spirit Day on Friday, Jan. 17, to support the Lions ahead of their divisional playoff game against the Washington Commanders. On Saturday, Jan. 18, the team lost to the Commanders, ending the Lions’ chances of making the Super Bowl this year.
The Standish-Sterling Central Boys Coed team swam a Triple Dual Meet at home against John Glenn and Alpena on Jan. 23.
The drawer to the left of our kitchen stove is our useful drawer. Potholders and oven mitts dwell in the front. A 5.5” x 15” organizer tray holds things which we don’t use for cooking but are handy to have in the kitchen. After a while, it also holds a lot of things that get shoved there when we want to clear things off the counter.
