Incoming president details future Rotary goals Members of the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish heard a presentation recently by David Tokarsky, the incoming club president who will assume the office of president on July 1. Tokarsky reported on his participation in the recent President-Elect Training Seminar, PETS, conference in Kalamazoo, along with a general outline of activities he is planning in the coming year.

The impact of Blume

Judy Blume has been in the news a lot recently. I’m assuming it’s because the movie “Are you there God? It’s Me Margaret” hit the big screens this past weekend.

Loyalty parade royalty

Junior and Senior Princesses ARENAC COUNTY — The Arenac VFW Post #3724 and Auxiliary recently organized a contest to select a Buddy Poppy Senior Princess and a Buddy Poppy Junior Princess for the 50th Annual Loyalty Day Parade on April 29. The contest was open to daughters, granddaughters, or great-granddaughters of auxiliary members aged 5-9 and 10-14. The Auxiliary also extended an invitation to all former princesses to participate in the parade.

SSC presents the Top 10

Macey Fegan is the daughter of Keith and Alison Fegan of Bentley. Macey is graduating with a 4.214 GPA. She will be attending the University of Toledo to play basketball and obtain a degree in business. Some of her school activities include: Student Council, National Honor Society, Basketball, Softball, Swimming, and Volleyball.

Calling all authors

It was snowing as I was getting ready to go to work last Monday. When I got to work, my coworker Mary said, “I don’t know whether to wear boots or flip-flops.” It’s been that kind of spring.

Arenac Choraleers announce spring concerts

STANDISH — The Arenac Choraleers spring concert performances titled Show Stoppers has been slated for Sunday, May 7 at Standish-Sterling Central High School at 4 p.m. A performance will also take place in West Branch on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Au Gres Farmer’s Market begins May 19

AU GRES — The opening day of the Au Gres farmers market's 2023 season has been slated for May 19. Every Friday until Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Au Gres Friday City Market will be held at Au Gres Riverside Park, located on US-23 in Au Gres.

Wolverines medal in Science Olympiad Tournament

Members of the Au Gres-Sims Science Olympiad team earned second and eighth place medals and placed in the top 25 in nine events during Division B of the Michigan Science Olympiad Tournament, held Saturday, April 22 at Michigan State University.
