Rotary explores parks and nature preserves By Mandilee Hecht The annual Saginaw Bay Nature Festival, hosted by the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish, helps provide an opportunity for nature enthusiasts to explore the wildlife sightings and landscapes of area parks and nature preserves, through its annual tours. Three tours have been held this year, with another scheduled for later this month.
989-387-9295 ARENAC COUNTY — The Arenac County Commissioners met for their regular meeting April 25, where they discussed various issues, ranging from animal control and emergency management; to veterans’ services and infrastructure repairs.
STANDISH — Two Victorian Tea Parties will be held Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at noon at the Northeast Art Center, located at the corner of Grove Road and US-23 in Standish. Sponsored and hosted by the Northeast Michigan Arts Council, NEMAC, this fundraising event will include refreshments such as tea, small sandwiches, scones, cakes, and assorted pastries, served in a garden setting.
AU GRES — Au Gres City Council held its regular meeting on May 2 during which council discussed foreclosed properties that will be up for tax sale this year. The Arenac County Treasurer sent a list of properties to the council, including a boat slip in Harbortown and the lot next to Freakin' Pickles on US23. The City Council determined that they had no interest in these properties and recommended approving a waiver of claim.
Open house set for Camp Fish Tales 989-387-9295 PINCONNING — Camp Fish Tales, a non-profit camp for those with disabilities, is celebrating the start of a new camp year and the introduction of a new playground. An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony has been set for Sunday, May 13.
CERT hosted its first annual Community Preparedness Emergency Expo in Standish last Saturday
The Arenac County Community Emergency Response Team, CERT, with the Red Cross, will be hosting an Emergency Management Partner Shelter Training this Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Eagle Point Plaza, 415 E. Main St. in Hale.

City manager stresses need for volunteers AU GRES — City of Au Gres Manager Dale Wiltse is appealing to the community to step up and volunteer to help with the many events that take place throughout the year in Au Gres. With the shortage of future leaders to volunteer for these jobs, Wiltse is urging locals to come forward and become more active in their community.
