Walter C. Reimer

Died May 24, 2019

Walter Charles Reimer, 90, of Standish, dear husband, father, grandfather and friend, left for his heavenly home May 24, 2019. His comical sense of humor, loyal friendship and beautiful blue eyes will be sorely missed.

Walter was born to Fred and Selma (Huber) Reimer in Saginaw on Jan. 29, 1929, and married Marlene Emma Ruthig on Nov. 7, 1952. Walter worked for the Farm Bureau, farmed, boarded horses, developed land and enjoyed outdoor life. Walter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Fort Dix, N.J., Camp Chaffee, Ark., Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., and in Captieux, France, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Walter and Marlene moved to Standish in 1972, where he served as the Lincoln Township zoning administrator and an election official. He served as elder and church treasurer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In later years Walt and Marlene enjoyed dancing, playing euchre, watching the deer and wildlife in their backyard and remembering their honeymoon days in Bermuda. After more than 65 years of marriage, Marlene predeceased him June 4, 2018. He is survived by daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Moore of Daytona Beach, Fla., Lori Wischer of Manchester, Kan., and Linda (Steve) Trahan of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; five grandchildren, Anna and Joshua Moore and Max, Zeke and Elizabeth Wischer; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be Monday, June 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel, 127 N. Forest Rd., Standish, MI 48658. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 5622 Johnsfield Rd., Standish, MI 48658. Walter will lie in state from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Matthew T. Dent will officiate. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
