Verizon outage affecting Northern Michigan

MICHIGAN — Many Michigan residents who use Verizon cellphone service have been reporting difficulties Oct. 17.

The website Downdetector, which reports outages for various companies, showed a significant spike in reported Verizon issues starting around 10 a.m. today. Its live outage map shows a large red and yellow blob over Michigan. Although it seems to be concentrated on the lower half of the Lower Peninsula right now, many Northern Michigan residents have reported problems as well.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Verizon responded to a customer on Twitter and confirmed problems with its service.

"Some customers, primarily in the Midwest area, are currently experiencing interruptions in 4G LTE services," the company wrote.

Verizon's post also said engineers are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it quickly.

The Free Press and Daily Mail reported that the issues have affected several states, and Verizon had had issues yesterday as well.

According to the Daily Mail, the outage may affect data payments, calls and texting.
