Thomas Patrick Prohaska Sr., 70 1/2, of Pinconning passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, at McLaren Bay Region, Bay City, from a heart attack and complications of progressive COPD.

He was born in Standish on Oct. 13, 1948, to Frank and Anna (Koziel) Prohaska and was a lifetime resident of the Standish and Pinconning area. Tom was a graduate of Standish-Sterling High School class of 1966, attending Lake Superior State University and Saginaw Valley State University.

He was a member of Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. Tom retired from Northern Tube, Pinconning, serving in various elected union positions for UAW Local 1134. He was a member of the American Legion Post 104, Vietnam Veterans of America 390, a past grand knight of the Father Labory Council 2724 and faithful navigator for Father Woloszek Assembly 2787.

He most of all enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, traveling, gardening, going to casinos, cooking Polish recipes, sudoku and volunteering at the Knights of Columbus. Tom was “a jack of all trades but a master of none,” as he liked to say.

He is survived by his wife, Diane (Hribek), whom he married Nov. 22, 1969, officiated by Father Richard Jozwiak at St. Agnes Church, Pinconning. He is also survived by his son Thomas Jr.; granddaughter Shiloh (Tayler) and great-grandchildren Kinley and Isabelle; grandsons Keagen and Noah Prohaska; daughter Trisha (Marc) Daniel, grandchildren Brianne Hughes, Alexis Wilson, Kelsey, Kyle and Kayla Daniel; special nieces, Holly (George) LaBarge and daughter Trinity, and Ashley Ruegsegger and her son Kale; two brothers, Ed (Jennie) and Mike (Melissa); two sisters-in-law, Josie Prohaska and Suzanne (Sid) Wolfgang; brothers-in-law, Ron Hribek and Don Hribek; also several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Dennis and Cheryl Roczkowski.

He was predeceased by his brother, Frank; and a special sister-in-law, Karen (Bruce) Shurlow.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 29, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Joseph Miller presiding with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Pinconning Chapel on Sunday from 2-8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. On Monday, Thomas will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
