Theron Patrick Holland, 80, of Au Gres passed away Friday morning, March 1, 2019, with family by his side at home.

Pat was born July 10, 1938, in Omer to the late Roy and Irene (Nowak) Holland. He graduated from Arenac Eastern High School in 1956 and attended Northeast School of Commerce before he began his longtime career at Holland’s IGA in Au Gres. Pat married the former Darlene Adele Stanley on Nov. 11, 1967, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres, and together they raised two children, Troy and Tracey.

Pat was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 7717, former member of the Au Gres Chamber of Commerce, Chemical Bank Executive Board, a member of the Au Gres Yacht Club, Au Gres Men’s Club and more than 50-year member of the Au Gres Lions Club. He enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling and woodworking, and was an original member of the Dirty Dozen Hunt Club of the Omer Plains. His favorite pastime was the daily “coffee club” at Ali's Up North (formerly Dunleavy’s) with the local men to catch up on the daily news. Pat was a very generous person to whoever needed help or assistance. His generous nature made him a favorite to so many people and to the town of Au Gres. If anyone needed anything, they went to Pat Holland.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; daughter, Tracey (Scott) Sandel of Beal City; grandchildren, Kyle and Cassidy Sandel; twin sister, Sharon Holland; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Joan) Stanley and Mike (Shannon) Stanley; sister-in-law, Patricia (Delbert Steele) Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his son, Troy; brother, Floyd Holland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Ruth Stanley; and brother-in-law, Tony Smith.

Visitation for Pat will take place from 2-8 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Buresh Funeral Home, 101 E. Michigan Ave., Au Gres, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. (in state 10 a.m.) Tuesday, March 5, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 415 S. Court St., Au Gres. Father Gerald Balwinski will officiate. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery in Au Gres.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Au Gres Christian Charities or the Knights of Columbus scholarship fund. Online condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
