SSC wins regional championship


STANDISH — The Standish-Sterling Central baseball team won the regional championship Saturday, defeating Beaverton.

SSC topped Beaverton 7-3 to win the title and advance to the state quarterfinals. Earlier in the day the Panthers beat Reed City 7-1 in the regional semifinal.

SSC is scheduled to face off against Gladstone Tuesday in the state quarterfinals in Petoskey. The game starts at noon. If they win, they will advance to the state semifinals Friday at Michigan State University where they would face either Madison Heights Bishop or New Lothrop. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m. at MSU.
