Shop with a Cop comes to Standish.

Posted

STANDISH— It’s that time of year again! Shop with a Cop begins on Dec. 18 and starts at Standish-Sterling Central Elementary school. This year, with the loss of Shopko in town, the group will be bussed to West Branch to shop at Walmart.

According to Arenac County deputy Rachel Vallad, between 20-25 kids will participate this year and will have the opportunity to go shopping with law enforcement officials. Each child will have a $100 giftcard to shop with.

Instead of heading back to the school to wrap the gifts, everything will be done at Walmart this year. Walmart is opening up the garden center to the program and they will be able to get all the wrapping done there.

Last year, the Michigan State Police, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, and the DNR joined the Arenac County department in shopping and Vallad believes they will be joining them again this year.

They plan to be in West Branch by 6 p.m. to start shopping.
