Semi truck catches fire on exit 202 overpass

Posted

ALGER β€” The tires of a semi truck carrying dry cement powder caught fire on the M-33 overpass that runs over I-75 near exit 202 around 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.

According to Michigan State Police Trooper Shane Noble, it is believed the fire originated from either the brakes or wheel bearings of the truck.

β€œIt was some sort of underlying equipment issue which superheated the tires,” Noble said.

Noble, who was the first emergency responder on scene, said the driver attempted unsuccessfully to put out the fire with an on-board extinguisher. He said the Moffat Township Fire Department arrived on scene quickly and extinguished the fire.

Noble said deputies from the Arenac County Sheriff Department and MSP Motor Carrier Officer James Manier were also on scene.
