On March 4, 2020, Sandra (Sandy) K. Hughes (Steinhoff), of Omer, formerly of Bay City, Michigan, began her next journey.

Sandy was born on February 28, 1945 in Bay City, to Wayne and Virginia (Hall) Steinhoff. In 1963, she graduated from Bay City Central High School. She was married to Donald F. Hughes, also from Bay City on December 14, 1968. Don passed away on May 5, 2020. Their life together created two sons, Jeffery Allen Hughes of Essexville, Michigan and Robert Frank Hughes, of Fairgrove, Michigan. They resided in Omer, MI, from 1977 until 2016.

She was preceded in death by both parents; stepfather, Frank Shimunec; brothers, DeWayne (Sharon) Steinhoff, Richard (Joann) Steinhoff and John (Ellen) Steinhoff and sisters, LaDoris (Kip) Fuller, Carol (Lyle) Sylvester, Virginia (Lester) Behmlander and Judy (Ervin) Kuch.

Sandy was always known as the mother figure for all who spent time with her and as one of the “crazy aunts” to the family that surrounded her. Known for her playful demeanor, it was always easy and enjoyable being in her presence. Her nieces, nephews and grandchildren were always drawn by her love and ability to have fun and a great time.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeffery Hughes and Robert (Martha) Hughes. Also, left to cherish her memory are her sister, Sally (Dan) Sylvester of Glennie, MI; brother-in-law, Ervin (Judy) Kuch of Bay City, MI; sisters-in-law, Sharon (DeWayne) Steinhoff of Rochester, NY, and Ellen (John) Steinhoff of Bay City, MI, as well as many nieces, nephews and three grandchildren.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of her and Don’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Omer Little League Field, on State Road in Omer, MI.
