Sammie Lou Flowers, 85, of Omer, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Daughter of the late Rolland and Lucille (Pavelock) Dion and Samuel McMurray, Sammie was born July 3, 1933, in Omer. She graduated from Standish High School in 1951 and attended Flint Hurley Medical School, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She married Chester Flowers on May 21, 1959, at St. Edward Catholic Church.

Sammie dedicated many years as a nurse for Dr. Hans Fischer and Greenbriar Health Care. She was an active volunteer in the community and Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. Her life was shaped and fulfilled by her tremendous faith. Her caring friendships and her generosity of time and talents enriched many lives. Sammie loved to entertain and had a passion for cooking. She enjoyed music, watching sports games (especially the Detroit Tigers), playing card games and camping.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her three children, Greg (Sheryl) Flowers, Lisa (David) Andreski and Robert (Angie) Flowers; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Robert) Tremble, Greg (Katie) Flowers, Ashley, Austin and Adam Andreski, Sam (Derek) Fesik, and Harry and Travis Phillips; and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jacob Tremble, Addisyn and Elaina Flowers, Aubrey and Dominic Fesik and Leigha Phillips. She also leaves behind her much-loved, close-knit siblings, Emilie King of Waterford, James (Mary Anne) Dion of Oscoda, Marie (Theodore) Maday of Twining and Lorraine (Donald) Downie of Athens, Ga.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends, all of whom will miss her tremendously.

Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1993; and her son, Edward, in 1966.

Family will be present at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home in Standish from 2-8 p.m. Friday, May 24, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A mass in celebration of Sammie Lou’s life will be offered at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church at 1 p.m. (in state at noon) Saturday, May 25. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to wishes of the family. A special thanks to Eden Fields and Heartland Hospice.
