Posted

Au GRES — Hundreds of cars and crowds of people are expected to attend Au Gres Cruisers Car Club’s 26th annual Rock ’n’ Roll Weekend Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, with a kickoff celebration Friday night behind Zanner’s Ice Cream Shoppe.

The kickoff, sponsored by Modern Craft Wine, will include music, dancing, a wine tasting and barbeque and is scheduled to run from 3-9 p.m. July 26.

The Rock ’n’ Roll event itself will be the same as it has been in past years, President K.J. Edmonds said.

“The cruise is Saturday night (July 27),” Edmonds said. “Line-up starts at 3.”

The 13-mile cruise, which will begin in front of the Au Gres-Sims school on Michigan Avenue, is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m., ending at the Au Gres City Park.

There will be dancing, a live band, contests with trophies and more following the cruise.

“We get 300-and-some cars for the cruise,” Edmonds said. “And then there’s the afterparty. It’s a good time.”

There is a $5 general admission fee for the party but there is no charge for the first 200 cruise cars,

he added.

Registration for the car show, which costs $10, will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday morning at Au Gres City Park. The show will run until noon.

There will be a variety of classes for participants, such as original restored, special interest, rat rod and more, out of which show attendees will vote for their favorites.

The event will also feature live music and a model car contest for kids in different age groups.

Edmonds said the entire weekend is a big deal in the city and people tend to look forward to it every year.
