Regina Sakaly, of Alger, was born Regina Kocot on May 7, 1927 to Anthony and Mary [Weiss] Kocot.

Regina was preceded in death by her entire family; brothers, Ray, Harry and Norman; sisters, Stella Demura (Mike) and Mary Ann Salo (Wayne).

She leaves behind her son, Jeff Sakaly and daughter, Deborah Vittitow (Ron) and Joseph Sakaly. Also, three granddaughters, Gina Pongracz and Tesia Martin (John) and Maggie. Four grandchildren, Stevie Pongracz, Brendan Martin, Jackie Pongracz, Haden Pongracz. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her favorite pastime was cooking, especially crepes and stuffed cabbage. The crepes would melt in your mouth and the stuffed cabbage would, well you know. Her cooking career started when she was 16 years old. Regina and sister, Stella, worked in the kitchen at Iva’s Chicken Dinners in Sterling.

Regina married Joe Sakaly on November 10, 1950. Together they built and operated the Alger Motel and Sakaly Mobil gas station. Regina ran the motel and the gas station while Joe operated his mechanic and excavating business. When Joe passed away at the young age of 57, Regina supported her family by working hard and contining the motel operation.

Regina spent the years of her life residing with Deb and Ron in Alger. She remained active and attended the Edwards Community Church when she could. She will be remembered fondly.

Funeral services for Regina were held Monday, November 25, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Edward's Community Church located at 4586 W. Greenwood Rd., West Branch, Michigan. Pastor Jon Scott officiated.
