Pine River Golf Club gains new owners.

ARENAC COUNTY— Local business owners Brad and Jessie Mason of Pine River Grocery recently purchased the Pine River Golf Club as of Dec. 27. The new owners purchased the course from previous owners Dave and Tom Goike, whom they are good friends with, because they were looking to retire.

“It seemed like the perfect thing to happen,” said new owner, Brad Mason. Born and raised in Standish, Mason learned how to golf at the Pine River course and taught his wife and kids to golf there as well.

“It’s an exciting opportunity,” Mason said. “It’s once in a lifetime where you can get something that means that much to you.”

The new owners plan on keeping everything the same for the most part, including the name of the course.

“We are hoping to eventually expand the hours a little bit in the off season,” said Mason. He said they would like to keep the club open during football season and weekends so people could come watch a game and enjoy a bite to eat.

“It’s been there a long time and there’s a lot of loyal people who play there. We want to keep it nice for them,” said Mason.

Though the club is currently closed, Mason said he hopes to have it open again on a limited basis at the end of the month. The Pine River Golf Club Facebook page will be updated with more information and an opening date in the future.
