MSP Sgt. Pete McNamara passes away


WEST BRANCH — Michigan State Police Sgt. Pete McNamara, 54, passed away in his sleep Oct. 9.

As 30-year-veteran with the MSP, McNamara was a champion in the West Branch post area that he served for more than 19 years.

“He was the foundation of the post,” Post Commander Lt. Chris Luty said. “He was absolutely rock solid. He was the go to guy not only for me but for the troopers.”

“He was truly the foundation of the West Branch post,” Luty continued. “He was truly genuine to the core. Personally and professionally, he was genuine.”

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 12 from 1-8 p.m. at Steurnol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. 

The funeral is scheduled for noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church in West Branch. Doors will open for visitation at 11 a.m.

Pete will be sadly missed by this community. He was the most genuine and well respected men I knew. He always had a smile on his face. Know matter where you saw him he was always smiling and gave you a big hello. I truly will miss his smile but most of all his friendship. Rest In Peace Pete.
