Model A’s, T’s and more to be on display at Standish Depot

STANDISH — Dozens of Model A’s and T’s and other vintage cars will be on display at the Standish Historical Depot Saturday, July 13 for the eighth annual Model A and Model T Car Show.

While it’s called the Model A and Model T Car Show, the show features a variety of trucks and speedsters with a production date of 1931 and older, organizer Curt Hillman said.

Due to poor weather, Hillman said last year’s show only had 45 vehicles on display even though around 65 vehicles were registered for the show.

“I expect more this year,” Hillman said. “People are coming from all over. I just got a registration from down in Detroit, I got one from the west side of Grand Rapids, I know I have some coming from Alpena and I think there are even some coming from the Upper Peninsula.”

The group will be doing a cruise at 5:30 p.m. after the show, where participants will head to the Ascension Standish Hospital, The Horizon Senior Living and Eden Fields Assisted Living before touring back through town and heading out for a private dinner.

The event is free of charge to the public, and for a fee attendees can grab lunch and top it off with an ice cream social at around 2:30 p.m.

Participants in the show having their chance to win several awards, including six best of show trophies, a long distance award for the farthest driven and the farthest trailered and a club participation award. The show will also feature a youth favorite award, and attendees who dress in era attire also have the chance to win a male or female attire award.

Hillman said the car show was originally held after the restoration of the depot as a means of promoting the building.

“I had read in a Model A magazine that they had held a car show similar to what we are doing now in Connecticut,” Hillman said. “And I thought, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’”

The show is scheduled for July 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. For more information, contact Hillman at 989-846-2771 or
