Legion to properly dispose of flags June 14

STANDISH — The Standish American Legion will be hosting a Flag Day ceremony June 14 to honorably dispose of American flags.

“We don’t want people throwing them in the trash,” post Commander John Moore said.

He said over the past year the Legion has accumulated around 1,000 flags, as county residents can drop off tattered and worn flags at the post throughout the year. Because of the large number, he said the burning will likely have to continue into the next day. The Girl Scouts will be helping in the process.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the American Legion post at 3221 N. M-76 in Standish.
