Ivan O. Sevrey

Died March 29, 2019

Ivan Otto Sevrey, 92, of Turner passed away Friday morning, March 29, 2019, at MediLodge of Tawas City.

Ivan was born Jan. 11, 1927, to the late Edward and Esther (Baker) Sevrey. He married the former Nina M. Reynolds on Sept. 19,1953, and together they raised three children, David, Donna and Judy.

Ivan enjoyed farming, his fruit trees and hunting. He worked for Nixon Farms of Au Gres and groundskeeping with Marion Dittenbir. He was a member of Riverside Mennonite Church.

Ivan is survived by his children, David Sevrey of East Tawas, Donna Sevrey of Bay City and Judy (Galien) McClellan of Warren; grandsons, Charles and Joshua McClellan, and Peggy and Dale Sevrey; great-granddaughter, Sierra Deshong; also good friends, Lyle (Fern) Swartz of Tawas City and his friends at Riverside.

In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by his wife, Nina, on May 29, 2005; and siblings, Edwin, George and Lulu Sevrey.

Ivan was universally loved by the nursing staff and residents at the different facilities where he lived. He was nicknamed “the Sheriff” because he wanted to make sure everyone was “OK.” He became a believer in his senior years, was baptized and knew he was forgiven and on his way to heaven.

Visitation for Ivan will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Riverside Mennonite Church, 3620 Twining Rd. (rural Turner). The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019, at Riverside Mennonite Church. Pastor Ron Swartz and Lyle Swartz will officiate.
