Irene M. Jurek

Died April 19, 2019


Irene Mary Jurek, 91, of Standish passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at The Horizon Senior Living facility, Standish.

Irene was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Deep River Township to the late Stanley and Valeria (Kanczuga) Kroczaleski. She married Leonard Jurek on June 21, 1947, at St. Florian’s Catholic Church, Standish. Together Leonard and Irene established their own farm. Irene enjoyed her role of being a farmer’s wife and helped Leonard do everything from tending to their dairy herd to planting and harvesting crops. When she wasn’t in the farm fields, Irene could be found working in her vegetable and flower gardens, which she took great pride in.

Irene is survived by four children, Sharon (Dwight) Hankins, Tom (Yvonne) Jurek, Cindy (Roy) Reno and Donna (Chris) Jurek. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Drs. Christina (Mike) Curcione, Lorie Marko (Denny), Kimberly (Basil) Agapion, Dr. Katie (Wesley) Rich, Christopher Reno (Lindsay), Tom (Mandy) Jurek and Aaron Jurek (Erin); and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Kroczaleski; three sisters-in-law, Monica Kroczaleski, Betty Kroczaleski and Maud Kroczaleski; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by one sister, Adeline Kroczaleski; and three brothers, Paul Kroczaleski, John Kroczaleski and Bernard Kroczaleski.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Standish, with the Rev. Father David Parsch officiating. Interment will be in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Omer. The family will greet family and friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Irene will lie in state at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church from 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, until time of Mass at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank The Horizon Senior Living and Compassus Hospice for the great care given to their mother during this trying time. They would also like to thank Pat and Carol Shannon for giving their mom communion.
