Gary K. Pake, 68, of Standish passed away Aug. 1, 2019, at Brian’s House in Essexville with his family by his side. He endured a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Bay City on Oct. 13, 1950, to the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Ainsworth) Pake. Gary was a graduate of Pinconning High School. He completed educational training through Marketing and Management Institute for shop management, receiving numerous mechanical certifications for sales, service, parts, qualified service technician for tractors, dozers, loaders, generators and heavy equipment. He also completed training with the Deutz Corporation, Agricultural Equipment Division for successful technical training in engine, clutch, transmission, drive train, hydraulics, driven front axle, electrical air conditioning, FAHR products, shop management and specialized training.

Gary served six years with the U.S. Army Reserves as an artillery survey specialist and was promoted to sergeant. He left the military in 1972 with an honorable discharge. He worked at Miscisin Brothers dealership in Standish, and after one year of employment was promoted to shop foreman. Gary then went on to work for the Bay County Road Commission and retired from there. Gary was a licensed airplane pilot and gave airplane rides to family and friends. In the past he was a shareholder of Carl A. Gross Airport, Inc. and held the position of acting as vice president of the corporation.

If there was someone in need of help, Gary was first in line to help in any way he could with a smile on his face. He was a tireless worker. In 2001 Gary owned and operated Gary’s Excavating of MI, LLC and Gary’s Agricultural Repair & Sales, LLC. He loved farming, woodworking, repairing, flying his airplane, and being with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Pake; his mother, Dorothy Bissonnette; two brothers, Dennis and John Pake; and many friends and family.

He is survived by four children, Cynthia (Mike) Procunier, Cheryl Rahn, Kurtis Pake and Kimberly Valencia; grandchildren; sister, Diana (Timothy) Stalker; and brother, James (Katherine) Bouckaert.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Pinconning United Methodist Church, at 11 a.m., Pastor Heather Nowak presiding, with full military honors to follow. Family and friends may call at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home, Sunday, Aug. 4, from 2-8 p.m. On Monday they may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pinconning United Methodist Church or Brian’s House in Essexville.
