Freezing rain causes power outages in Standish area

STANDISH — Freezing rain and winter weather Feb. 7 caused power outages in and around the city of Standish.

According to Consumers Energy Media Representative Debra Dodd, 297 customers were without power in Arenac County at around 2 p.m.

“We are in the midst of a huge storm with our company and have 142,000 customers out statewide,” Dodd said. “We’ve had two ice storms come through Mid-Michigan and the west side of Michigan in two days, and while we got about 40,000 customers restored yesterday, we just got hit extremely hard this morning with the second wave of ice.”

Dodd said an estimated restoration time for Standish customers is not yet available.
