Fatal accident shuts down corner of N Main St. and S Main St. in Omer


OMER— A 71-year-old Omer woman was struck by a vehicle and killed while trying to cross US-23 near Main St. in Omer, Monday evening.

The pedestrian was identified as Charmaine Ploof, of Omer.

Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre said the accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 as Ploof attempted to cross four lanes of traffic and was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

Ploof was a librarian at Omer Little Eagles Nest Library.

The accident remains under investigation.
