Farmers market done for season

STANDISH — The farmers market at the Standish set up for the last time of the season on Sunday, Sept. 27, ending what was a productive year despite a drop in vendors.

Market manager Ray Koroleski said that, due to a less productive growing season, the market saw an average of around 15 vendors per week — about five fewer per week than last year.

Even so, Koroleski said it was a good year for the market.

“Overall, we still had a good turnout,” Koroleski said. “We still put as many people through as we had before.”

Koroleski said the depot has been a great location and has been even better since they reorganized the setup of the market.

“I think that moving out of the parking lot and into the grass to add more parking really helped,” Koroleski said. “It’s a good location. It’s a good way to support the local economy. Our local residents enjoy it and like having it readily available.”

Koroleski said the market will reopen on Memorial Day next year, and he encourages anyone who is interested in becoming a vendor to pick up an application at the depot.

“It’s a good way to get your name out there and promote our area,” Koroleski said.
