Elizabeth Joan Cornish Kenney (“Betty Jo”), 96, died peacefully of natural causes on May 2, 2020. Born and raised in Standish, Michigan, she was the first in her family to attend college. She obtained her degree in education at her beloved Michigan State University, where she was an editor on the University Newspaper. She met and later married a fellow editor on the same paper, the late Jeremiah “Jerry” Kenney. After graduation, she taught English literature in Michigan public high schools until her new husband, Jerry, took a position as a staff member for a U.S. Senator in Washington DC. The newlyweds then moved to the Washington D.C. area. For the next 70 plus years, she called the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. home as she raised her children and supported her husband’s career as a senior staff member for the U.S. Senate and then as an executive with the Union Carbide Corporation. Betty Jo never lost her love of books and the English language and was a regular volunteer in public school libraries. She lived her life surrounded by family and friends.

She leaves behind her two children, Kristie Kenney and John Kenney, both of Washington D.C.
