Cheryl Elaine (Stoner) Elliott

Died March 22, 2020

Cheryl Elaine (Stoner) Elliott, 63, passed away surrounded by family on March 22, 2020.

A small private service was held in her home with close family, followed by a private burial at Woodmere Cemetery in Standish MI. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cheryl loved being a mother. She cherished her family and embraced every moment with her kids. She never missed an opportunity to visit her children and grandchildren who lived out of state, or to spend an evening with her grandson and daughter who lived close by. Cheryl exemplified what it means to be a devoted and a caring mother. She always made time for her family and made sure to be there for every big moment in each of her children’s lives. Her dedication extended to her grandchildren as well. She loved being a grandmother and spending as much time as possible with her grandkids; whether that meant “tagging along” on family vacations, or cheering one of them on from the sidelines, Cheryl was always there for her family.

Cheryl was also a loving wife. She married Thomas Elliott on November 8, 2003, at Edgewood Church of God in Ithaca, MI. They shared a love of faith, family, and travel. Tom and Cheryl took every opportunity to visit new places. They had a passion for exploring the U.S., and traveled to the Badlands, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, and the East Coast, among other places. They even spent two weeks in Alaska helping to fix up a Church of God camp. In the years after they were married, they incorporated vacations with Cheryl’s kids and their grandkids into their travels. Vacations in Maine and Colorado were favorite destinations.

Cheryl was also a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. She often traveled with her mother to Florida for a few days each winter and loved spending time with her brother and sister. Cheryl also adored her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She made each one of them feel special. She would listen to them and offer advice to them as if they were her own. The quintessential nurturer, Cheryl always made time for those she loved.

Cheryl was a teacher for 18 years at Most Holy Trinity School in Fowler, MI. The multitude of well-wishes, tributes from former and current students, and friends who stopped by during her long illness is a testament to her impact as a teacher. She tirelessly devoted herself to helping her students grow both academically and as Christians. Her dedication to her co-workers was just as strong, and Cheryl created a family of friends who she cherished to the end.

Cheryl leaves behind her beloved husband, Thomas Elliott; and treasured children, Ashley (Jason) Niedzwiecki, Marisa Ouillette (fiancé Chad Holiday), Nicholas (Kylee Dunham) Ouillette and Mallory Ouillette. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who she adored; grandsons, Aidan, Sawyer, Maddox and Adler Niedzwiecki, and Keegan Ouillette, and granddaughter, Elin Niedzwiecki. Cheryl is also the beloved daughter of the (late) Jack and Elaine Stoner (Schmidt), and the much-loved sister to Kerry (Lynette) Stoner and Lisa (Mike) Hinkley, and sister-in-law to Bill (Dawn Link) Elliott, and Liz (Mike) Christofferson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family. Online condolences can be made at The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.
