Au Gres celebrates sixth annual winter festival

AU GRES— Although the fishing contest was cancelled due to inclement weather, the soup cook-off and poker run carried on as planned as Au Gres celebrated its sixth annual winter festival. The soup cook-off, coordinated by Ellen and Tim Edwards, had 22 entries, which is more than they have seen in previous years.

Ann Marie Borushko received first place with her reuben soup, Nancy Lash came in second with her bison beer cheese soup, and Lisa Saunders came in third with her stuffed green pepper soup. The Au Gres Chamber of Commerce donated chamber bucks for the winners to use at any business that participates with the chamber.

The poker run participants braved the cold and the rain and made five different stops this year, including, H&H Bakery and Restaurant Au Gres, Ali's Upnorth, T&C Sports Lounge, Modern Craft - A different kind of wine, and The Sportsman's Bar. For the $20 division, Steve Stiff won first place for $240, Barb Richardson won second for $144 and Branden Storery got third for $96.

For the $10 division, Steve Jean won first for $175, Beth Pruitt won second for $150 and Steve Stiff got third for $70.
