Au Gres Area Men's Club wraps gifts for Christmas in the Park.

AU GRES— The Au Gres Area Men’s Club bought and wrapped Christmas gifts to hand out to children at the annual Christmas in the Park event. The organization has been handling this project for at least 45 years, according to member Dennis Stanley.

“The men’s club purchases the gifts. We wrap them and they are given out at the tree lighting ceremony at the city park,” said Stanley. The money to purchase the gifts comes solely from the  men’s club dues and is their only project.

“The purpose of the men’s club is to make sure the kids get a gift,” Stanley said.

Before Christmas at the Park, the organization would hand out gifts at Au Gres-Sims school. Santa would come, everyone would sing christmas carols and each kid aged 10 and under would receive a gift.

According to Stanley, the number of gifts they give away usually depends on the weather. This year the weather was nice and clear, we had a pretty good turnout, said Stanley.

“We wrapped around 110 gifts,” said Stanley, “I’m sure we gave away at least 100 gifts.”

The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month. If anyone is interested in joining, contact Dennis Stanley at 989-820-7564.
