Arthur E. Ross Sr.

Died Nov. 9, 2018

Arthur E. Ross Sr., 91, of Standish entered eternal peace Nov. 9, 2018, at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla.

Art was a well-accomplished man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Art was born June 22, 1927, to Arthur and Ruth (Oxford-Stuart) Ross in Saginaw. Eager to become a U.S. serviceman, he entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 during World War II. Upon completion of his time served, which he was extremely proud of, Art met the love of his life, Maude J. Greanya, and the two would join hands in marriage Sept. 16, 1950, in Arenac Township. They were married for 55 years until Maude preceded him in death in 2005.

Art was a member of the Omer Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Au Gres Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8275. He worked as a supervisor for General Motors for many years until his retirement. Art enjoyed many things life had to offer, such as reading or watching a good western, watching the Detroit Tigers, traveling, camping, spending time with family and hunting. He also enjoyed working with his portable sawmill, seining minnows, and just about any kind of work someone needed help with. He was always happy to lend a hand to someone in need.

After Maude preceded him in death, Art was able to find love again when he married Jan Robbins on Nov. 15, 2006, in Tawas. In the time the two spent together for the last 12 years, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with Jan’s family.

He is survived by his wife, Jan of Citrus Springs, Fla.; two daughters, Rita (Don) Leitz and Tammy (Bill) Ulrich, both of Tawas; daughter-in-law, Christine Ross of Alpena; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Judy) Berry of Sterling; many nieces and nephews; as well as many special friends.

Art was preceded in death by a son, Arthur E. Ross Jr.; and three sisters, Irene Restainer, Virginia Witte and Marie Berry.

A celebration of life gathering will be planned and announced on a future date. Cremation arrangements have been handled by McWilliams Funeral Home, Alpena. Online condolences may be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com.
