Arenac Eastern holds all-school reunion

ARENAC COUNTY— Arenac Eastern held an all-school reunion on Sep. 7 after the school closed in 2017. All classes were invited, as well as past employees.

“I thought it was wonderful,” said Janet Allen, class of ‘62. “We had photographers taking pictures, some speakers from the early classes, and a cheerleader who did a cheer. I thought everyone had a good time.”

The event had a wide variety of about one hundred thirty people from all different classes. “The first class was in 1946,” said Allen, “I think we had someone from the class of 1948. We had several from 1950.”

The reunion was held at the Cheese House in Pinconning, where the group gathered to reminisce about their time at Arenac Eastern and the history of the school.

The following day, people were allowed to take a tour of the old school in Twining. “It’s gorgeous and way bigger than when I was there,” said Allen. Trophies were still on display in the library, along with graduation photos from 1946 to 2017.

Arenac Eastern’s all-reunion committee plans to have another reunion in two years in September, 2021. All former students, employees, teachers and community members are invited to attend.

To sign up to attend, email or visit the Arenac Eastern Elders on Facebook for more information.
